
One of the required qualifications of applicants for the Registered Master Electrician PRC board examination is “Apprenticeship“. An applicant must have a subsequent specific record of experience or apprenticeship in electrical wiring, installation, operation, and maintenance of utilization devices and equipment.
In Article 1.0.1.10 Apprenticeship stated in Philippine Electrical Code.
(A) Republic Act 7920 or the national electrical engineering law requires apprenticeship as one of the qualifications to the registration and licensure examinations for Registered Master Electrician (RME), in order to practice electrical engineering in the Philippines. Knowledge and understanding of the Philippine Electrical Code, Parts 1 and 2 (PEC1 and PEC2) form part of the examinations given.
(B) An apprentice shall undergo training under a person holding a valid certificate of registration and a valid professional license for the practice of electrical engineering under Republic Act 7920 or the national electrical engineering law.
The required number of years in Apprenticeship is depending on the applicant’s technical background. If the applicant has any of the following technical backgrounds:
1. Completed at least three (3) years of a five-year Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) course or a three (3) year course in Electrical Engineering Technology and has a subsequent specific record of One (1) Year of practice in electrical wiring, installation, operation, and maintenance of utilization devices and equipment. This section includes the graduates of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Major in Electrical Technology.
- The required year of Apprenticeship is One (1) year.
2. Graduated from two (2) year Vocational Electrician’s Course and having at least two (2) Years of apprenticeship after completion of the course of instruction on electrical installation, operation, and maintenance of utilization devices and equipment.
- The required year of Apprenticeship is Two (2) Years.
3. Completed a one (1) year Electricians Course of instruction from a vocational school recognized by the Philippine government and in addition, has a subsequent specific record of at least three (3) Years of apprenticeship after completion of the course of instruction on electrical installation, operation, and maintenance of utilization devices and equipment.
- The required year of Apprenticeship is Three (3) Years.
4. Has completed a four (4) year high school education and in addition, has a subsequent specific record of at least five (5) Years of apprenticeship on electrical wiring, installation, operation, and maintenance of utilization devices and equipment.

After the apprenticeship is completed the Licensed Electrical Practitioner who trains the apprentice should issue a Certificate of Employment or Service Record. And in addition one of the requirements of the PRC is a notarized certificate of experience signed by an REE or RME whose registration is prior to the date of employment.
